KING ARTS PTA SUPPORTS STRONGER TOGETHER EVANSTON

As a PTA, we are charged with supporting the welfare of our youth; advocating for laws that advance their education and safety; and engaging the public in united efforts to secure the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing of our entire community.

For this reason, the King Arts PTA is signing on in support of the petition circulating in our community by Stronger Together Evanston.

Already signed by 1300+ community residents, the petition conveys unequivocal support for D65’s anti-racist educational efforts and stands in opposition to the lawsuit filed on behalf of Ms. Stacey Deemar, who used to teach at King Arts.  This lawsuit is spearheaded by national advocacy groups who seek to bring anti-racist K-12 public educational efforts to the Supreme Court so that they may be struck down and deemed unconstitutional. Evanston/Skokie School District 65 is the first lawsuit that has been filed but more are likely to come.

Our vision is that every child’s potential is a reality.  And our mission is to create an environment where EVERY student, caregiver, and educator feels valued, safe, and experiences a sense of belonging in our community. Eradicating racism and white supremacy are essential to making King Arts’ vision and mission a lived reality. As a PTA, we are committed to cultivating an anti-racist school community that all children deserve and lives up to our namesake. This requires hard work, uncomfortable conversations and taking courageous steps that move us forward.

We invite members of Evanston/Skokie School District 65 to join us in signing on to the petition.
